Dr. Emmanouil A. Zoulias is a Health Informatics researcher, educator, and biomedical engineer currently serving as a Member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) in the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He is also a Postdoctoral Researcher focusing on Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Education.
He earned his Ph.D. through the National Technical University of Athens in collaboration with the Medical School of the University of Patras, where his research focused on developing intelligent decision support systems for thyroid cancer diagnosis using advanced data mining techniques. He also holds an M.Sc. in Biomedical Instrumentation Engineering from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom, and a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.
Dr. Zoulias has over two decades of academic, research, and professional experience spanning health informatics, biomedical engineering, healthcare information systems, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, medical image analysis, and digital health technologies. His career includes leadership and technical roles in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the National Centre of Public Administration and Local Governance, the 1st Regional Health Authority of Attica, and several national and European research initiatives.
His research focuses on artificial intelligence applications in healthcare, clinical decision support systems, biomedical signal and image analysis, health information systems, machine learning, digital transformation in healthcare, nursing informatics, health data analytics, and medical education technologies. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and conference proceedings in internationally recognized journals and has served on organizing and scientific committees for major international conferences in health informatics.
As an educator, Dr. Zoulias teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Signal and Image Analysis, Data Analysis, and Digital Health. He has supervised numerous master's theses and actively contributes to advancing interdisciplinary research, innovation, and international collaboration in health informatics and biomedical sciences.
